CLIMATE CHANGE IS FORCING AN ISLAND EVACUATION

Kivalina Alaska

The Alaskan, Kivalina island is small and only accessible by sea or air.  Unfortunately, the native Inupiat population are under threat from soaring waves that flood the island and changes in hunting strategies as a result of global warming.  The Inupiat people and the U.S. Government are devising a relief effort which may involve permanently relocating the residents to a nearby location.

 

It will cost over $100 million to move the Kivalina population of 400
